- The global sports betting market hit $119.26 billion in revenue, a massive 13.8% jump.
- Mobile wagering accounts for 83% of all bets placed worldwide.
- Brazil became a top-5 global market with €5.96 billion in revenue.

The sports betting world reached a new level in 2025, with global revenue reaching $119.26 billion. According to the 2025 year-end reports, the industry has become a cornerstone for the global entertainment economy, no longer considered as a niche pastime.
This surge was driven by the digital transformation of bookmakers worldwide. The “basic” websites are a thing of the past, and the “always-on” mobile access is the fuel for bettors who want to engage with every second of a game or an event.
It is clear now that the mobile-first punter is the primary engine of the entire industry.
Is North America Still The Main Engine For Growth?
North America remains the undisputed powerhouse of the betting world, at least for now. In 2025, the U.S. gaming market contributed to a staggering $16.96 billion in revenue. American players wagered 11% more than in 2024, totaling $166.94 billion in sports betting.
New York kept its crown as the top betting state, but the real surprise was the rapid rise of markets like Florida and Illinois, which both crossed the billion-dollar mark. North of the border, Ontario continued to set the pace for Canada, with over $9.33 billion in monthly bets.
In total, the USA and Canada combined toward "Same Game Parlays" and player-specific props. These high-energy bets have turned casual viewers into highly active participants, making North America the most profitable region for operators globally.
Has Europe Reached Its Peak?
Europe still holds the largest share of the global online market, but the way Europeans bet has changed. In 2025, the European market reached €123.4 billion, with online gambling finally overtaking traditional land-based gambling.
Also, desktop betting now accounts for only 33% of turnover. Mobile phones have become the "betting shops of the future", generating 58% of all revenue across the continent.
The UK remains the continent's leader with €11.1 billion in online revenue. Italy and Germany are also seeing a major surge in activity thanks to new regulations. Europe in 2025 has improved the user experience, with faster, more personalized ways to play, rather than relying on new players.
Will Brazil And RoW Dominate In 2026?
Brazil has been the success story of 2025. On the first day of 2025, the country officially launched its regulated market, and the numbers were historic. It generated €5.96 billion ($6.3b) in its first year, with 25.2 million citizens placing bets.
Brazil is now the fifth-largest betting market in the world, fueled by the "Pix" payment system, which enables instant, one-click deposits and withdrawals.
The African continent is also successful. Revenue in the region is set to reach $3.08 billion, with South Africa alone projected to generate $768.6 million in sports betting revenue in 2025. Physical infrastructure is limited in these regions, and the smartphone has become the only tool that matters.
