Betfair: Le Pen Poses as “Attractive Proposition” to Politics Punters

According to an analysis by the Betfair Politics department, almost 30% of online politics punters are backing far-right candidate Marine Le Pen as the winner of the French Presidential Elections 2017.

This is not so much matter of careful consideration however, as the most significant factors seem to be a combination of high odds (10.00 - 9/1) and belief that Le Pen will manage to pull a "Trumpesque" upset. Although these odds translate to a percentage as low as 10%, according to Betfair, politics bettors think that Marine Le Pen still poses as an ‘attractive proposition’.

Emmanuele Macron is currently being traded at 1.11 - 1/9 odds and is considered as a clear cut favorite to become the next French President. According to French news outlets, he currently holds a lead ranging from 4 to 20 points.

No matter what the final result might be, the French Elections 2017 are proving to be a fruitful market for Betfair, who have taken in £22 million in bets.
