The Eastern European bookmaker Marathonbet has announced that it will withdraw from the UK betting market; however, the international business will continue. British members received an email from the sportsbook stating that from April 14, 2022, they will be unable to place a bet or deposit while new registrations have already been suspended. Marathonbet advised all players to withdraw funds as soon as possible.
Will Marathonbet Continue Operating Elsewhere?
The betting firm entered the UK market in 2015, the first Western European country to do so, with Spain & Italy following along. Shortly after, it also signed a three-year sponsorship with Liverpool FC. In 2019, Marathonbet became Manchester City's training kit sponsor after an ''eight-figure deal,'' which followed serving as the Citizens' betting partner for 18 months.
The correspondence sent to members stated: ''As the Marathonbet brand is operated globally, recent and ongoing events in Europe have had a significant impact on us. We regret to inform you that we have taken the decision to temporarily suspend services offered on the Marathonbet.co.uk website.'' Local betting licenses in places like Spain, Italy and Curaçao will not be affected, as confirmed by the firm. All bets will be settled by May 24, and after that date, they will be voided, likewise with any unused bonuses, free bets or loyalty points.

Bookmakers with a Russian background were treated for years with much suspicion. MarathonBet deviates from the norm of seeing every player as a threat and has proved that is here to stay. It has managed to maintain the characteristics of an Eastern European sportsbook, namely the high odds and limits, and also transformed to appeal to bettors from any part of the world. It has gained a lot of credibility, especially after acquiring multiple local licenses. Nonetheless, there are 1-2 areas I would like to see some improvements. Due to the very low margins, it attracts many pro players, who use the site for arb betting. This has led to accounts being limited super fast, but not every high roller is a sharp bettor. In addition, the interface is very dull and does not keep up with the current gamification trends. Also, the absence of a Welcome Bonus in most countries is downright bizarre. Nevertheless, even without a Bonus, MBet remains the top destination both for professional and novice bettors.
