India was one of the territories where betting was prohibited, but as it was expected, with all the other countries going forward, the Indian authorities should make a step back and that time for this has come, since everything seems that we lead to the legalizing of betting in the country. The National Law Commission of India this week confirmed proposals, by which the betting will be legal in the country. The past July, India’s Supreme Court recommended the legalization of sports betting and this recommendations would proceed through the “Right to Information Act”, giving the Indian citizens the chance to participate in sports betting.
The chairman at Law Commission of India, mr Balbir Singh Chauhan, commented on the issue: “We are examining all legal aspects of betting in sports. Once we make up our mind and prepare a skeleton in what direction we should proceed, and what legal problems may arise, we will write to all the stakeholders,” he said and the changes are going to proceed within the next few months, changing for the better the Indian market.
