Betsson obtains local license in Germany

betsson-germany The renowned bookmaker Betsson announced that it has been licensed by the Regional Council of Darmstadt to launch its sportsbook in the German market. With the addition of Betsson, the number of licensees in Germany has been extended to 27.

The first betting sites to receive licenses under the new German State Treaty did so in October of 2020. Betsson did not wait long to catch up on the trend. On February 10th 2021, it paid disputed German taxes to improve its chances of getting the license. One month later, the bookmaker’s move was justified. The sportsbooks that have been granted licenses under the new Interstate Treaty will be officially able to start their operations on July 1, 2021.

The CEO of Betsson, Pontus Lindwall, stated: "We are pleased to finally receive this license and we are preparing to re-launch our German Sportsbook shortly under the German regulation. Operating sports betting in Germany is part of our strategy of strengthening our position in existing markets by prioritising segments where Betsson has the best conditions to offer leading products. We look forward to offering German customers great entertainment".
