The world no. 1 chess grandmaster Magnus Carlsen has signed a sponsorship deal with Unibet, that will make him the global brand ambassador of the famous bookmaker.
The Norwegian, who is known as the ‘Mozart of Chess’, is a Grandmaster from the age of 13 and has been selected by the Kindred Group Plc-owned bookmaker in order to promote responsible gambling and fair play.
It is worth mentioning that Unibet has also worked with the Norwegian in the past, as it sponsored Carlsen’s 2018 FIDE world championship match against the current world no. 2 Fabiano Caruana.
The Chief Commercial Officer of Kindred Group, Rhodri Darch, stated that the signing of Carlsen will help them build a stronger market position towards the hundreds of millions of chess fans around the globe and towards ambitious online gamblers, who appreciate the value of gaining an advantage by researching data.
He also mentioned that since 2014, Unibet has pointed out that “luck is no coincidence”, by giving credit to players who rely on statistics and research in order to make important decisions. Thus, he said that Magnus Carlsen is the epitome of that concept, that’s why they decided to build their latest marketing campaign around him.
It is also worth noting that Unibet is the only global brand that offers ‘next move’ markets on its live betting chess platform.
Regarding his new sponsorship deal with Unibet, Carlsen stated that he and the popular bookmaker share many same values and interests when it comes to sports and the related stats. He also said that they both know that “luck is no coincidence” and that in order to make all the right decisions, you need a well-balanced combination of skill, knowledge and intuition.

No need for introduction for a brand like Unibet, a global power that has managed to take over the market with millions of active players. For 20+ years the bookmaker has been on a constant rising and it has reached many strategic regulated markets, like France, Italy and Australia among others. The Kambi sportsbook platform has always been a guaranteed solution, but that doesn’t mean that there are no negative points at the Scandi giant. I noticed that the last couple of years the odds took a slight downfall, especially in minor football leagues and N.American sports. There still are many complaints about the customer support, features like partial/auto Cashout and Quickbet should be added, while the winning limits seem ridiculous to my eyes. On the other hand, the odds on the top leagues are better than Bwin’s and equal to Bet365’s, while the wide range of sports, markets and payment methods are intriguing. I can’t ignore that Unibet is a safe and sound choice for a recreational player and it is fair to the brand, which has built a solid name throughout all these years.
