The re-regulated Swedish market is starting to shape up with further development being announced within the next few days. The reason for that is that the Swedish gambling regulator Lotteriinspektionen has announced the first operators who will be licensed within the country. The licenses will be active from the 1st January of 2019 and on the list, huge names can be found, in the likes of Kindred Group Plc, Betsson AB (with Betsson, Nordicbet, and SverigeAutomaten) and LeoVegas AB.
To be more exact the domains unibet.se, mariacasino.se, storspelare.se, bingo.se, igame.se got the approval they needed in order to go live from the first day of the upcoming year. As it was expected, the reactions from the gambling companies showed how important it was for them to succeed in getting the approval to operate in Sweden, which is after all – in most of them – the country of their origins. Except for the Swedish betting sites, there were several European bookmakers who got a license, like Interwetten, Bwin, PartyGaming, and Bet365.
Mr Henrik Tjärnström, who acts as the Group CEO of Kindred Plc, stated regarding the license Unibet got in Sweden: “Today is a historic day for Kindred. We have been pushing for a modern and sustainable gambling market in Sweden from the very start of Unibet in 1997, in which the focus is on consumer protection and harm minimization.”
