Although the gambling market at Greece remains in a transitional period, the players seem to support the local bookmakers as proved the accumulated revenues the 24 gambling operators had in the first 6 months of 2018. Obviously the World Cup that took place in Russia helped a lot towards this direction, but even so, the fact that those operators generated a total wagering turnover of €3.23 billion and revenues of 182.8 million is pretty impressive.
We should also note that the turnover total is by 24% higher compared to the same period last year, with revenues scoring 30% higher. The increased betting activity has also profited the government coffers as a tax of 64 million euros was collected in taxes! The Greek market is only 2 billion euros short of last year's cumulative sports betting revenues meaning that 2018 will surely be a record year for Greek betting sites! In addition, GVC’s flagship in Greece, Sportingbet, increased its share in Greece to nearly 20%, compared to the 6% of 2017.
