Match-fixing is an everyday phenomenon in sports betting. It suggested to be present on nearly every professional sport and following the latest reveals, nothing will ever be the same, especially when it comes to tennis. The Independent Review Panel published a new report, that is suggested to upset the world of sports.
A BBC and BuzzFeed news report states that they found suspected illegal betting in lower level tennis tournaments with the IRP having undergone a study that lasted two years. It included more than 100 players from all over the world and the findings reported corruption at lower and middle-level events at the sport. There were also strong suspicions for match-fixing at higher levels, however, no official finding were published. On the other hand, a positive bit of news is that the governing bodies or the Tennis Integrity Unit (TIU), do not seem like they are covering up the whole situation.
It is noteworthy that the International Tennis Federation has been considering to terminate every sponsorship coming from betting operators, while there is also a thought of reforming and reorganizing the Tennis Integrity Unit. There have also been other key findings, suggesting that Q4 2017 reported match-fixing finding at alarming rates.
