It has now been officially established that SportPesa is the leading sports betting site in Kenya. A consumer research resulted in a report stating that a large part of the country’s players are keen on subscribing to betting operators using the Kenyan firm’s platform. To be more exact, a spectacular 82% of the players did chose Betin (40% of them), Elitebet (22%), Betika (12%) and Mcheza (12%). Additionally, 180 of the survey respondents admitted that they subscribed at multiple betting sites, all including the SportPesa gaming platform.
Is should be noted that the news came to the spotlight right after the company announced they are about to make a comeback to Kenyan sports sponsorship, although a few rumours had emerged concerning some financial problems. First of all, the company withdrew a funding of 5.8 million dollars in January, while the 35% gambling revenue tax, is projected to bring SportPesa to their knees. It is not a coincidence that the CEO, Mr. Karauri, announced that there will be a drastic cut in the company’s expenses.
Despite the aforementioned issues, the firm’s governance reported that they are now in an open dialogue with the Kenyan Football Federation, aiming to provide 800.000 dollars of sponsorship per season.
