The European Commission has requested a new amendment to the existing Austrin Betting Act in order to bring it closer to EU's commerce laws. The Austrian regulatory body has ratified these changes which have be put into effect immediately (as of 4/12/2017).
What Are the New Amendments?
According to the amended Betting Act, new limits have been imposed on the stake amounts and special identification is required by minors. The existing age requirements (18+ years of age) apply both to casino and sports betting. More specifically:
- Players are required to possess a betting customer card in order to be able to wager. To avoid any misunderstanding, it is suggested to keep your card on you when you use a betting terminal.
- In order to place bets that exceed €70 it is required that you present your betting card. Customers can also be identified via biometric recognition procedures.
- The maximum stake allowed on any bet (be it single or multiple) can not exceed €500. This excludes bets placed on a (numerical) interim or final result or an event deriving therefrom, or on which individual or team will next improve their standing.
