Paddy Power macabre mistake

20 Sep 2017

sport-preview-paddy-power-ehiogu-redknappWho is going to be the next Birmingham manager? That seems like a usual betting market, unfortunately this was not the case for Paddy Power. The Irish bookie made a macabre mistake, as they offered Ugo Ehiogou as a possible manager to take over at Birmingham City.

Former player for Aston Villa and England tragically passed away from a cardiac arrest on April 20 this year.

The officials at Paddy Power removed the market after a few minutes but as we all know, nothing stays hidden from social media nowadays. It took only a couple of minutes before it was known to millions of users.

Paddy Power quickly issued a statement apologizing for the error saying: “This was a genuine error, a trader re-used an old market as a template for this one, and didn’t notice that Mr Ehiogu was included. Obviously, that was a mistake, one which was rectified as soon as it was spotted, within minutes”.

Paddy Power quickly issued a statement apologizing for the error saying:

Despite the fact that Paddy Power tends to apply such tactics and make similar “mistakes”, this time this was not developed on purpose.

Last month the bookmaker promoted the big fight Mayweather / MacGregor with this phrase: “We always bet on black.”
