Betfair has opened the politcs market for ‘Next Liberal Democrat Leader’ after Tim Farron’s unexpected resignation on 14th of June.
In the section Betfair politics, you can bet on the next leader of the party and Jo Swinson,
MP for East Dunbartonshire, is a strong favourite at 4/9 odds.
Lib Dems increased their Parliamentary representation to 12 seats, however, the expectations in the 2017 UK General Elections were thought to be much higher.
Farron will lead the party until the Parliamentary Recess (20 July). The new leader will be announced by the Parliament’s opening on September.
If Jo Swinson wins the “race” she will become the first female leader of the Liberal Democrats party during their 80 years of history.
Norman Lamb (4/1), Ed Davey (5/1) and Vince Cable (6/1) follow as close favourites to lead the Lib Dems.
Betfair Politics Spokesperson, Katie Baylis commented on the market: “After winning back her Dunbartonshire East seat last week, Jo Swinson was tipped to become deputy leader of the Lib Dems, but Tim Farron’s shock resignation has seen her go straight in as favourite for the top job in the party. Despite high hopes for a big Lib Dem comeback in the Election, they didn’t do nearly as well as they would have liked, with Farron himself enduring a difficult campaign. You would imagine they will be looking for a fresh new approach, which could be why Swinson leads the betting ahead of older-hands such as Vince Cable and Norman Lamb.”

When it was established, back in 2000, the Betfair betting exchange revolutionized online gambling. It gave bettors the ability to compete against each other based on a poker or stock exchange model. Players can bet with very high limits and also cover their wagers with more fair conditions compared to the Cash Out feature that traditional bookmakers offer. Professional bettors can use the exchange as a tool to follow the market trends and sell their bets. The high liquidity almost guarantees that your bets will be traded. Betfair is up-to-date with the latest features, like Bet Builder and Request a Bet, and added a fixed-odds section, too. However, the sportsbook payout is below par. Although the market depth in the exchange is huge, it is not as it once was. The liquidity of less popular sports and leagues has decreased dramatically due to the inability of some countries to regulate the betting exchanges, which forced Betfair to exit strategic markets. Moreover, the commission fees are relatively steep compared to other exchanges, such as Matchbook or Smarkets. There are additional charges if you are a very successful trader. Overall, if you are looking to bet on the exchange, then Betfair is unrivaled to any other company.
