The American Sports Betting Coalition (ASBC) is trying to capitalize on the recent online betting law changes within the United States of America. According to ASBC CEO Geoff Freeman "The PASPA has failed to protect sports, fans and communities".
A report from the Oxford Economics has shown that the US betting market regulation, would lead to:
- The curb of the current illegal market worth $150bn
- A safer environment for US bettors
- A regulated industry worth $26bn
- More than $5bn in annual tax
Brad Schimel, attorney general for the state of Wisconsin and a member of the National Association of Attorneys General Executive Committee has added: “PASPA is unconstitutional and a failed law. I, along with several of my colleagues from other states, believe we must respect state sovereignty. That is why we filed an amicus brief [court papers filed by a non-litigant] to the New Jersey case. The rampant illegal sports betting that currently exists continues to fuel other criminal activities and provides no consumer protections. States should be able to determine for themselves how to address the issue.”
