Not every football story is about glamorous cars, 10 figured contracts and eccentric WAGs. Once in a while, a man manages not only to beat his opponents on the field, but also take down any challenges that life might bring. This one is called the Marco Russ Wonder Story.
It all started one year ago. Eintracht Frankfurt had just finished a German Bundesliga match against SV Darmstadt and Marco Russ was asked to perform a routine anti doping test. The results at first were not clear, however, no one could have guessed that the Frankfurt defender would be found positive for testicular cancer. Luckily for him, he was diagnosed in time and was able to successfully undergo a treatment, that saved his life.
Russ' Return Impact Results
One year passed and Marco Russ was ready to prove to the entire football world that he has a winning mentality inside the football pitch as well. Last week Eintracht travelled to Borussia Monchegladbach for the semi finals of the DFB Pokal Cup 2017. After 90 minutes of play, both sides had scored one goal and were headed to overtime. In the 103th minute, Russ entered the fray. No team had managed to break the deadlock and they were headed for a nerve racking penalty shootout. Marco Russ stepped up on the tenth penalty, with one mission in mind: Score and keep his team alive.
He not only managed to score, but his team managed to win the shootout, after Hrgota netted the 7th penalty for his side and sent Frankfurt to the final of the DFB Pokal Cup. There, they will meet Dortmund at May 27th and get the chance to win their 5th German Cup. Marco Russ showed us that every obstacle can be beaten, as long as you keep believing that you will win.
