Will Donald Trump open the US sports betting market?

2 May 2017

sports betting marketIncreased speculation has arisen during the last weeks in the US, as experts are claiming that changes on the gambling legislation are imminent.

Donald Trump's new administration seems to be testing the waters, as they try to approach new changes on the existing gaming law. According to Geoff Freeman, CEO of the American Gaming Association, the time is ripe, as the current state of affairs was described as "the perfect storm", for the reintroduction of online sports betting in USA.

However, many critics remain cynical at these remarks, as lawmakers remain hesitant on introducing a specific bill that will lead to significant changes on the already existing Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. What remains to be seen, is whether Donald Trump's close ties with the casino industry will boost or deter any new developments on the sports betting market. Whatever the case might be, local punters and online bookmakers like Bovada and 5Dimes are eyeing up the opening of the market.
