A new gambling bill is coming on Sweden

1 Apr 2017

gambling billLots of things seem to change within the European market and this happens due to the new regulations have been established the last few months in many countries. Another territory which is ready to change the regulations regarding the online betting with a new gambling bill, is Sweden. Following the publication of the results of a year and a half long about the country’s gambling industry, the Swedish government recommends that the country bring to an end Svenska Spel’s monopoly over online gambling, that it should introduce a new chain of regulations, which will be based on licenses the bookmakers can get, if they follow the rules. The Swedish government is aware of the recent years of the success of companies such as Kindred and Betsson in the country and thinks that by letting this and more gambling operators get in Sweden, will bring more money to the country.

After the government’s report publication, Peter Alling, who is the Head of Public Affairs Nordics at Kindred, commented on the matter: «We welcome the political consensus on the need for a modern gambling legislation, and the commitment that a new law will be in place before the next general election. For re-regulation to be successful there is no room for major changes in the investigator's proposal. Delays will endanger the whole reform.».
